Deep-Retrograde

by Rhineland905

Deep-Retrograde brings deepslate-era terrain and blocks back to Forge 1.12.2, adding Deepslate, Tuff, Calcite and Sculk to world generation.

What it does

New stone types are generated in the world: Deepslate, Tuff, Calcite and Sculk replace parts of the existing strata, with rare bright spherical clusters of white rock and large uneven areas of volcanic rock interrupting the Deepslate layers. Ore replacement is handled in an optimized pass, so ores are placed inside the new stone without a separate generation step.

Deepslate can be smelted back into smooth Deepslate, cobbled Deepslate can be processed in a furnace, and Deepslate ores can be blasted into ingots. The blocks break with sounds and hardness values modeled on the newer versions. The mod is aimed at worlds that want the newer underground look while staying on 1.12.2.

Installation needs only Forge; no other catalog mod is required. Installation covers the server and each player's game. Files are published for Forge only, for the single game version 1.12.2, with 1.1.1 as the latest file. The code is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later and is open source.

Key features

  1. Deepslate and sculk terrain

Deepslate, Tuff, Calcite and Sculk generate as strata in the overworld, with smooth world generation.

  2. Rare white rock clusters

Bright spherical clusters of white rock appear occasionally within the stone layers.

  3. Volcanic rock patches

Large uneven areas of volcanic rock interrupt the Deepslate strata in places.

  4. Deepslate furnace recipes

Cobbled Deepslate smelts into smooth Deepslate, and Deepslate ores blast into ingots.

  5. Modern block hardness

Deepslate blocks use increased hardness and breaking sounds that match the newer block behavior.

  6. Lightweight generation

Chunk memory is accessed directly to replace blocks, and the sphere placement and sculk patching routines are kept light to limit world-loading lag and StackOverflow errors.
