Custom End Portals
Custom End Portals lets modpack creators change the items needed to build an End Portal in Minecraft Java Edition.
What it does
Custom End Portals changes how End Portals and Strongholds are built. A pack maker can set which items the portal frame recipe uses, so the default requirement of diamonds and honeycomb can be replaced with other items. The portal frame also gets its own unique block type, which lets it be given separate models and textures from vanilla.
Out of the box, the frame models match vanilla End Portal frames in shape, and the texture files for the frame tops and for the empty and filled states are separate files that can be swapped. A pack can swap those textures without touching the rest of the game. The mod runs on Fabric for Minecraft 1.21.1, 1.21.2 and 1.21.3, and the latest file is 1.0.1 for 1.21.3, published 2024-10-28.
The mod runs on the client and the server, so both the server and every player need it. It is released under the MIT License and is open source, with public source code and an issue tracker.
Key features
Configurable portal recipe
The items required to craft an End Portal are set by the pack, so the progression can be changed.
Unique portal frame block
The portal frame is its own block type, separate from the vanilla End Portal frame.
Custom frame textures
Separate texture files cover the empty and filled frame states and the frame tops.
Matching default models
Default models match the vanilla End Portal frames in shape, so the change shows only in the items used.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Who it’s for: Modpack creators who want to change the End Portal recipe or its look, and server owners who run a custom pack and need every player to see the same portal.
How it compares
Better End Portal is open source under the MIT License and runs on Client and server, with files for 1.20.1 – 1.21.8 on Fabric. Disable End Portals is server-side only, is released under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, and covers 1.19.4 – 1.21.5 on Fabric. Custom End Portals targets 1.21.1 – 1.21.3 and sits on the same client and server environment as Better End Portal, which makes it the closer match for a pack that changes the recipe.

(Not that you would, that sounds awful.) Each portal frame is now its own unique block type, meaning you can easily give each…
