Create: Improved Display Link Experience

by VladisCrafter

Create: Improved Display Link Experience changes how Display Links inside the Create mod combine their text, using one input string with placeholders and an attached label.

What it does

Create normally joins a Display Link's output with a fixed rule. This add-on replaces that with a single input string in which placeholders mark where values are inserted, so the display text can be shaped without a separate command or datapack. A label can be attached to the link and is joined to the input with a space by default. When no placeholder is used in the label, Create's own concatenation applies as before, and mixing the two styles works without conflicts.

The mod also covers the practical side. Placeholders that are available depend on the world or server and can be listed through a hover button that opens a Placeholders Usage Guide tooltip. A toggle lets a player hide that hover button in the Display Link interface, and the mod config opens through the Catnip Create-styled screen. Characters can be inserted literally by escaping them with a backslash.

The mod requires Create and runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge, with builds covering 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, and the code is released under the MIT License as open source.

Key features

  1. Placeholders in display strings

A single input string can hold placeholders at chosen positions, letting a Display Link show formatted text.

  2. Attached label

A label attached to a Display Link is joined to the input string with a space between them.

  3. Placeholders usage guide

A hover button in the Display Link interface opens a tooltip listing the placeholders available in the world or server.

  4. Literal characters

A backslash escapes a character so it appears as typed instead of being read as a placeholder.

What the author says

This add-on pushes the boundaries apart by introducing the $ and {} placeholders. Placing one (or more) marks the place where the input string should be inserted. In short, the Attached Label can now act like a formatted string! You can utilize as many placeholders as you want in one string. Mixing both types of them…
