Coupons

by ShyNieke

Coupons adds paper coupon items that each change one everyday interaction, such as crafting, smelting, trading, brewing, looting or gaining experience.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.16.3 – 26.3

What it does

Each coupon is a single-use item that applies one effect when it is used. The Crafting Coupon returns the items that were consumed in an inventory crafting recipe, unless the crafting happens inside a container. The Furnace Coupon smelts one item for free. The Potion Coupon replaces a water bottle in a brewing stand, granting one free brew choice.

The Villager Coupon makes a villager's trades cheaper for a short time, the Loot Coupon doubles the loot dropped by the mob it is applied to, and the Experience Coupon grants one free experience level. Loot doubling is skipped for mobs on the blacklist and for bosses, and a configuration option can disable it entirely. Coupons can also be obtained by trading with Wandering Traders, and that source can be turned off in the config.

Coupons runs on Forge and NeoForge and is published for 26 release versions, 1.16.3 – 26.3. Both sides need the mod, so the server and every player install it. The code is open source under the MIT License.

Use cases

Survival progression

Coupons give players one-off boosts for crafting, smelting, brewing or farming without changing vanilla recipes.

Server economies

Server owners can keep Wandering Trader coupons, change how they are obtained, or disable the source through the config.

Who it’s for: Players who want small, single-use helpers in survival, and server owners who want to adjust how those helpers are obtained.

Questions

Does Coupons have to be installed on the server?

Yes. Both the server and every player need the mod, since the environment is client and server.

Which loaders does Coupons support?

Forge and NeoForge. The latest Forge file is 1.1.1 for 1.20.1, and the latest NeoForge file is 11.0.0 for 26.3.

Can Wandering Traders be the only source of coupons?

Coupons can be obtained by trading with Wandering Traders, and the config controls whether that trade is available.
