Controlled Construction
by BearWarrior
Controlled Construction lets players place blocks along measured lines and planes, with a visual cue for each measurement, when building by hand in survival or creative.
What it does
Players hold V to measure distances: a first press records a location where the player is looking, and releasing V on a second point reports the height, length, width, vertical and diagonal lengths and horizontal diagonal length. Each step leaves a colored particle cue on the block, and a cow bell sound marks the moment the first point is recorded.
Four building modes are available, and the G key switches the mode, with a second press turning it off. A Y-Lock mode restricts placement to the Y level of the block recorded below the player, and a second Y press turns it off. A force direction setting pins placement to up or down, north or south, or east or west. Pressing R forcibly rotates a block as it is placed, which helps with directional blocks such as logs.
The mod runs on the client only, so players install it themselves and servers do not need it. It is published for Forge and NeoForge, with release files for 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 1.21.4 and 1.21.5 across the 1.20.1 – 1.21.5 range. The license is the MIT License, and the code is not open source.
