Control Swap

by Muriyad

Control Swap is a Fabric minigame where a team shares one body and control passes between its members on a timer.

FabricClient and serverMIT License26.2

What it does

Each team controls a single shared body. Control moves to the next player in an ordered list when the turn timer runs out, so the whole team takes turns steering the same character. Team members can see the body's perspective, including its hotbar and inventory, while another player holds control.

The turn length defaults to 600 ticks, which is 30 seconds, and can be changed. Turn order is customizable, letting the team set the swap sequence. A per-team boss bar shows who currently holds control, and a next-player indicator shows who comes after. Spectators can optionally be blinded, which is off by default.

The mod works with teams, and the game can run alongside commands, datapacks and maps. Fabric API is required. Installation covers the server and each player's game. The code is under the MIT License, but the project is not open source.

Key features

  1. Shared team body

Each team has one body that every member controls in turn, so the team plays as a single character.

  2. Timed turn rotation

Control rotates between team members when the turn timer ends, with a default of 600 ticks, or 30 seconds.

  3. Customizable turn order

The order in which players receive control can be set, so the swap sequence is decided before play starts.

  4. Team boss bar and next indicator

A per-team boss bar shows the current player, and a next-player indicator shows whose turn comes next.

  5. Optional spectator blindness

Spectators can be blinded while a turn is active. The option is off by default and can be enabled.

Use cases

Team speedruns

Teams racing a course can share one body, with turns changing on a fixed timer, as the mod was inspired by a 3v3 speedrun race.

Who it’s for: Players and server owners who want team games in which control of one body passes between members. Groups playing minigames on multiplayer servers can use the team and turn settings to set the rules of each round.

How it compares

Full comparison

TeamTpa is a server-side only Fabric mod that is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, with a 26.2 build. Control Swap needs both client and server, so every player has to install it. Hotbar Swap Mod is client-side only and uses the All rights reserved license, covering 1.21.4 – 1.21.11, so it does not handle team turns on a server.
