Cobblemon: Clear View

by yikesonbikes

Cobblemon: Clear View is a client-side Fabric and NeoForge addon that removes foliage around a Cobblemon battle so the player can see the Pokémon clearly.

FabricNeoForgeClient-side onlyMIT License1.21.1

What it does

Once a Cobblemon encounter begins, the mod checks the surrounding blocks and swaps out short grass, ferns, tall grass, flowers and similar intangible plants for air inside a radius the player can set. Standing in a flower patch or dense undergrowth no longer hides the opposing Pokémon, which matters because the player camera does not account for foliage between the Pokémon.

Foliage is restored block by block when the battle ends, whether the outcome is a victory, a defeat, a capture or a run. Each removed block is put back in its original position with its exact block state. The same view-clearing behavior applies to wild encounters and trainer battles, so the mod does not change based on the kind of fight.

Only replaceable foliage is affected. Terrain, solid blocks, crops and anything a player has built stay exactly as they were, so farms, decorative constructions and battle arenas are left intact. The mod is installed on the client and needs Cobblemon, which it requires, on the same loader. Files are published for Fabric and NeoForge, for 1.21.1 only, under the MIT License; the project is not open source.

Key features

  1. Automatic foliage removal

Clearing starts on its own when a Cobblemon battle begins, with no command or key press needed.

  2. Configurable radius

The config menu, opened from the default key, sets the clearing radius to 3, 6, 9 or 18 blocks, centered between the Pokémon. The default is 18.

  3. Pokémon-only mode

An alternative mode clears a two-block sphere centered on the Pokémon instead of the whole area.

  4. Trimmed grass option

Trimmed mode converts grass inside the radius into Trimmed Grass while flowers and crops are not touched, a fit for naturalized arenas like grass- and bug-type gyms.

  5. Full restoration

Every removed block is recorded and placed back after victory, defeat, capture or running, so the terrain is left as it was.

Cobblemon Indestructible Habitats is server-side only and open source under the MIT License, for 1.21.1, so it changes terrain on the server rather than the player view. Cobblemon Trainer Structures runs on client and server and is covered by All rights reserved, for 1.21.1, so both sides must install it. Clear View stays on the client alone and does not change world structures.

Questions

Does Clear View need Cobblemon?

Yes. Cobblemon is a required dependency, and Clear View only acts when a Cobblemon battle starts.

Does the server need Clear View installed?

No. It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing.

Are blocks changed permanently after a battle?

No. Removed foliage is recorded and placed back in its original position, with its exact block state, once the battle ends.

What the author says

An addon for Cobblemon that hides obscuring foliage during battles and restores it afterward. In vanilla Cobblemon, battles start wherever you happen to be standing; which is often in tall grass, a flower patch, or dense undergrowth.
