Client Side Sounds
by LetsGoAway
Client Side Sounds makes block placement sounds play instantly on the client, so players no longer hear them after a network delay.
What it does
In Minecraft 1.8.9, the sound of placing a block waits for the server to confirm the action, which causes an audible delay for players with high ping. Client Side Sounds moves that sound to the client so it plays as soon as the block is placed. The change is aimed at minigames such as Bedwars, where quick block placement is common and a late sound is especially noticeable.
The mod is a client mod: it changes nothing on the server, so players can join servers without installing it on the server side. It requires Java 8 or newer and Minecraft Forge for 1.8.9. Credit for the original idea goes to ASDFCube. The mod is published for Forge only, with version 1.1 for 1.8.9 as the latest file, and is open source under the MIT License.
Newer versions of Minecraft handle block placement sounds differently, and the author notes that the Java Edition issue is fixed there. The mod is therefore only needed on 1.8.9. Server operators with custom sounds can use the mod as well, since it works alongside servers that change block placing sounds.
Key features
Immediate placement sounds
Block placement sounds play on the client at the moment the block appears, rather than waiting on the server.
Lower delay at high ping
Players on high-latency connections hear placement sounds at the same time as the visual change.
Toggleable setting
A toggle lets players switch the client-side placement sound on or off without removing the mod.
Custom server sounds
Servers that use custom block placing sounds keep working, because the mod only changes when the sound plays.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Bedwars and fast minigames
Players placing many blocks quickly in minigames hear each placement sound without a lag between action and sound.
High-latency play
Players far from a server, such as those connecting from Australia, hear placement sounds without the delay caused by ping.
Who it’s for: Players on Minecraft 1.8.9 who connect to servers with high ping, especially those who play minigames that involve rapid block placement.

What the author says
This mod allows you to place blocks without there being any delay between placing the block and the sound of the block, which can be annoying for players with high ping (including me because I live in Australia). Credits to ASDFCube for the original mod.
