Classic Gamerule

by fallen-breath

Classic Gamerule restores the camel-case gamerule names that Minecraft replaced in 1.21.11, so older commands and datapacks can use them again.

What it does

Minecraft 1.21.11 renamed many gamerules from camelCase names to namespaced snake_case names, and in some cases reverted their values. The mod brings back the classic names, such as doDaylightCycle and doMobSpawning, and adds them as aliases for the current rules. Only naming and value mappings change; the underlying behavior of each rule stays as Minecraft defines it.

Some classic rules inverted their meaning in the rename, so the mod maps them to the correct current value. The disableElytraMovementCheck rule is one example, mapped back to the reverse of its current namespaced counterpart. The doFireTick rule has a related read-only counterpart, allowFireTicksAwayFromPlayer, which the mod also handles. Support covers Minecraft versions from 1.21.11 onward, including snapshot builds.

The mod runs on the server, including in single-player worlds, where the integrated server applies it. It needs no client install, so players join without it. Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and the code is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, making it open source.

Key features

  1. Classic gamerule names

Rules such as doMobSpawning and doDaylightCycle work again under their original camel-case names.

  2. Aliases for current rules

Each classic name is added as an alias for its namespaced snake_case rule, so both forms are accepted.

  3. Corrected value mappings

Rules whose values were inverted during the rename are mapped back to the intended meaning.

  4. Read-only rule handling

Classic rules that became read-only in the rename are covered, including doFireTick and its related counterpart.

What the author says

A simple mod that brings back the classic gamerule names to MC 1.21.11+ Minecraft renamed all gamerules from camelCase to namespaced:snake_case in 25w44a (1.21.11 snapshot), and even reverted the values of some rules, which broke all existing usage of gamerules. This is a poorly implemented incompatible change. Let's…
