What it does

cat_jam is a client-side mod for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. Each music disc sets off a fixed routine in nearby cats, so the same disc always produces the same movement. Discs from other mods that use the vanilla jukebox get a simple all-fitting routine, which covers tracks the mod does not know by name. Endermosh is supported, and cats ignore ambient discs.

Several mods have dedicated support. Discs Where Discs Shouldn't Be has all 14 of its discs covered, and both Heave Ho and the secret disc from that set are included. Custom AudioPlayer discs receive the all-fitting routine, though that part applies only to 1.19.2. Fabric API is required on every loader. Other optional companions include Alex's Mobs, Quark and Supplementaries.

The mod is released under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial Share Alike 4.0 license and is not open source. Its source code and issue tracker are public. Files cover 1.18.2 – 1.21.5 across 17 release versions, and the latest file for each loader is 1.3.1, published on 2024-11-18.

Key features

  1. Per-disc routines

Each music disc has a set routine, so cats move the same way every time that disc plays.

  2. Fallback routine for unknown tracks

Discs without a dedicated routine trigger a simple all-fitting routine, so jukebox music from other mods still gets a reaction.

  3. Discs Where Discs Shouldn't Be support

All 14 discs from that set have their own routines, including Heave Ho and the secret disc.

  4. Endermosh and ambient filtering

Endermosh has its own routine, and cats skip ambient discs entirely.

  5. Custom routine contributions

The author accepts requests for new disc routines and will add routines written by others.

Questions

Does cat_jam need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency on every loader, so it must be installed alongside cat_jam.

Does the server need cat_jam?

No. It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing.

Which disc packs get their own routines?

Discs Where Discs Shouldn't Be has all 14 discs supported, and Endermosh and Heave Ho have dedicated routines too.
