BTA Whitelist

by ipiepiepie

BTA Whitelist lets server owners keep offline-mode Better Adventure servers restricted to a list of approved players, including offline accounts.

What it does

On a BTA Babric server, the mod supports whitelisting for offline players, a case the base whitelist handles poorly. Adding a player who joins in offline mode now works as expected, so the server can admit only the names on its list.

The mod is installed only on the server, in its mods folder, and the server must run Babric with mod support enabled. Players join without installing anything, and a server restart is needed after the file is added. The build is for Minecraft b1.7.3 and is published as a modified version of Fabric Babric, which is designed for Better Adventure. Snapshot builds are published alongside the release.

Note that a whitelist does not stop a player from changing nicknames on an offline-mode server. Someone can switch to a whitelisted name and gain access to that account, so the whitelist alone does not secure a server that has offline mode enabled. The source code and issue tracker are public, and the mod is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Offline player whitelisting

Offline players can be added to the whitelist, which fixes the case where they could not be admitted by name.

  2. Whitelist enforcement

Only names on the server's whitelist are admitted, so a server can limit who joins without opening itself to everyone.

  3. Restart-based setup

Once the file is placed in the mods folder, a server restart activates the whitelist changes for all connected players.

  4. Modified base loader

The mod is built on a loader variant tailored to Better Adventure rather than the stock loader.

No per-version build data
Modrinth lists game versions for this project (b1.7.3), but the source data has no build per game version and loader, so the compatibility grid is not shown.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Server owners running Better Adventure on Babric who want a whitelist that works for offline-mode players. Players who only join a server need nothing installed.

How it compares

Full comparison

BTA Light Overlay is client-side only and open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, with files for b1.7.3. BTA Minimap is also client-side only and open source, released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only. Camera Man is the one alternative that runs on both client and server, open source under CC0 1.0 Universal. BTA Whitelist is server-side only, so none of these replace it for whitelisting.

Questions

Does BTA Whitelist need to be installed on the client?

No. Server owners install it, and players connect with no copy of their own.

Does the whitelist stop people from using other accounts?

Not fully. On an offline-mode server, a player can change nicknames to a whitelisted name and gain access, so the mod alone does not secure it.
