Boatism
by ShiroJR
Boatism lets players fit customizable engines to boats in Fabric worlds, so a voyage across open water can run much faster than with vanilla boats.
What it does
Boatism adds boat engine entities that attach to boats. Players fill the engine with fuel, start it, and adjust its power through several levels, with the highest level running faster than a vanilla boat. Engines can be upgraded with custom parts, and the fuel tank, canister and plating can be improved. The author notes that continuous high stress on the engine can cause accidents, so players must keep an eye on it while it runs.
The engine code is built with compatibility in mind, and the author says the mod aims to work with other mods. Custom boat entities can be hooked up to the engine, but a boat entity must extend the vanilla BoatEntity class and needs extra implementation work to take part. Boats of different sizes can have their engine position adjusted to suit them. The mod is open source under the MIT License, and Fabric is its only loader. Its files cover 1.20.4 and 1.21.1, with 0.2.4-1.21.1 for 1.21.1 as the latest build, and the source code and issue tracker are public. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.
Key features
Customizable boat engines
Engines are added as entities that attach to boats, with adjustable power levels for different travel speeds.
Fuel and upgrades
Fuel capacity, the fuel canister, the tank plating and custom engine parts can all be changed to suit a longer trip.
Engine wear
High sustained engine stress can lead to accidents, so players must watch the engine while it runs.
Custom boat hookup
Custom boat entities can connect to the engine, though they must extend BoatEntity and implement the extra hooks.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Players who want faster water travel in Fabric worlds, and server owners who want engine boats on a shared server. The mod suits adventure play and experimentation, though the author describes it as still being tested.
How it compares
Simple Boats is also a Fabric mod for client and server, released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and its files reach 1.21.11 – 26.3. Boat HUD (Extended) is client-side only, open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, and covers 1.20.1 – 1.21. Boatism is client and server, open source under the MIT License, and covers 1.20.4 – 1.21.1, so it differs from both in its engine focus.
