Boat Fall

by EcoBuilder13

With Boat Fall installed, boats break when they drop from a high enough height, and the passengers take fall damage.

What it does

Boat Fall makes boats and their passengers take fall damage. A boat that lands after a fall of sufficient height breaks, and anyone riding it is hurt by the same rule. Boats carrying chests drop their contents on the ground when fall damage destroys them, so the items remain recoverable.

The mod targets two long-standing bugs, tracked as MC-98160 and MC-105103, and runs entirely on the server while clients still behave correctly. Installation needs only Fabric or Quilt, and the latest release is 1.2.1 for 1.21.1. The code is under the BSD 3-Clause License and is open source, with public source code and an issue tracker.

Key features

  1. Boat fall damage

Boats break when they land from a sufficient height, and their passengers take the matching fall damage.

  2. Chest contents drop

Boats with chests release their inventory onto the ground when fall damage destroys them.

  3. Fall-damage fixes

The mod corrects the two tracked bugs so that boat falls apply consistent damage to every rider.

  4. Integrated server bugs

The mod corrects the bugs that appear on an integrated server in single-player worlds.

Use cases

Survival servers

Server owners who want boats to carry real risk from falls can run the mod without asking players to install anything.

Single-player worlds

Players on an integrated server get the same fall rules and the chest-drop behavior.

Who it’s for: Server owners and single-player players who want boats to take fall damage. The mod suits servers that want the rule enforced without client installs.

What the author says

This mod is a port of a fix from RandomPatches for MC-98160 and MC-105103. The mod works entirely server side while still functioning on the client. With this mod installed boats will break when they fall from a great enough height and their passengers will take the appropriate amount of fall damage. Boats with…
