Bigger Boats

by ThatMasonGuy

Bigger Boats lets up to four players ride a single vanilla boat, with the server handling the core behavior and an optional client mod improving how crowded boats look.

FabricServer required, client optionalGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.20 – 26.2

What it does

Bigger Boats keeps the vanilla boat simple and extends it so that a third and fourth passenger can board the same boat. Extra riders sit apart from one another, and the hull lengthens a little to make room, while one- and two-passenger boats keep their usual look. Because the server drives the essential logic, players without the mod can still join and ride.

Extra crafting recipes add replacement boat items, and a new recipe leads to a new boat item backed by a custom entity. The mod is aimed at multiplayer servers and small groups who want to travel together. Players who install the optional client side get cleaner visuals and a dynamic stretch when more than two riders are aboard.

The mod runs on Fabric and requires Fabric API. Only the server needs it to provide the four-player behavior, while clients may add it for the visual polish. Files cover 1.20 – 26.2 across 23 release versions, and the mod is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, so it is open source.

Key features

  1. Four passengers per boat

A vanilla boat can carry up to four players, so small groups can travel together without separate vehicles.

  2. Server-side gameplay support

The server runs the behavior that matters, and unmodded clients still connect and ride with the mod present.

  3. Optional visual polish

A client-side addition spaces out extra riders and stretches the boat slightly when a third or fourth passenger boards.

  4. Custom boat recipes

Additional crafting recipes produce replacement boat items, and a new boat item uses a custom entity.

What the author says

Bigger Boats keeps vanilla boats simple, but makes them better for small groups. Install it on a Fabric server and up to four players can ride in the same boat. No new recipe, no new boat item, no custom entity to teach players about. The server controls the important behavior, so unmodded clients can still join…
