Better Birch Forest
by devplop
Better Birch Forest brings new vegetation, redesigned birch trees and Fireflies into birch forest biomes, with fireflies and a bottle block for holding them.
What it does
The mod recolors and enlivens birch forests with more saturated colors. Birch trees take on redesigned shapes, and fallen birch stems lie on the ground to suggest an older, more natural forest. Two new flowers, a glow-in-the-dark block, hollow logs and a fungus that climbs birch trunks give the biome more detail.
Fireflies drift through these forests, and players can capture them in a firefly bottle, a decorative block that holds captured fireflies and gives off a soft glow. Fireflies also drop firefly goo, a new resource with crafting and decorative uses. The mod runs on Fabric and is needed on both the client and the server, under the Apache License 2.0, and it is not open source. Files cover 1.21 – 1.21.11 across 11 release versions, with the latest Fabric file, 1.2.1-1.21.11, for 1.21.11.

Use cases
Birch forest builds
Builders working in birch biomes can use the glowing block, holed logs and fallen stems to decorate their scenes.
Who it’s for: Players who explore birch forests in survival, and builders who want more greenery and light in those biomes. Server owners running Fabric can add it for a more lively forest setting.
How it compares
Fireflies is a Fabric mod for 1.21.4 that is open source under the MIT License and runs on client and server, so it focuses on the firefly feature alone. Better Birch Forest covers the whole birch biome, and its Apache License 2.0 terms mean it is not open source. No Birch is server-side required with optional client use, is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and is not open source, with Fabric files for 1.19.4 – 1.21.3.
