Atmospheric Nether
Atmospheric Nether is a world generation mod that reshapes the Nether with new biomes, lava rivers, cave systems and a taller dimension for exploration.
What it does
The mod expands the vanilla Nether by changing several major aspects of its terrain generation, aiming to make the dimension more geologically varied and more rewarding to explore. It stays faithful to vanilla Minecraft in its overall look while adding 27 new biomes, including 7 forest biomes and 9 cave biomes. Lava rivers flow across the landscape and cut through mountain ranges, and entrance caves can lead down from the Overworld surface into the continental regions.
The Nether height extends from -64 to 384, with the bedrock roof still at y256. Server owners should note that the mod is server-side only, so players join without installing anything. Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 19 release versions, 1.19.2 – 1.21.8, under a custom license that is not open source.
Key features
Crimson-like forests
Former crimson forests are replaced by soul sand and soul soil forests, with fewer fungi and a quieter population.
Blackstone caves
Caves formed from ancient magma chambers are made almost entirely of blackstone, with glowstone stalactites and stalagmites.
Quartz crystal caves
Some caves hold large nether quartz crystals and plenty of nether quartz ore, and they often form around lava rivers.
Subterranean lava rivers
Lava rivers flow through carved mountain ranges and continents, twisting through the stone and sometimes cutting through mountains.
Taller Nether
The dimension extends upward to 384, well above the vanilla build limit, giving more vertical space for caves and biomes.
