Aquatic Shulkers

by stohun

Aquatic Shulkers changes where shulkers spawn, placing them in deep ocean biomes and giving the mob a clam-like texture.

FabricServer required, client optionalMIT License1.21.1

What it does

Shulkers generate in deep ocean biome groups 3 to 4, so they appear underwater instead of in End cities. The mob is re-textured to look more like a clam, and it is immune to drowning. Its spawn frequency is adjusted in a way that overrides the built-in datapack spawns of other mods.

Players who collect shells can use the mod for an aquarium setup. Shulker boxes stay available for players who still want them, and the mod can teleport the shulker to nearby air blocks next to a solid block. Night vision and water breathing potions help players reach the deep ocean where these mobs are found.

The mod is a Fabric server mod that requires Fabric API. Only the server needs it, while the client can optionally install it. Files are published for 1.21.1 only, and the latest build is 1.0.0 for 1.21.1, released on the beta channel on 2025-09-05. It is released under the MIT License and is not open source. An issue tracker is linked.

Key features

  1. Deep ocean spawns

Shulkers generate in deep ocean biomes in groups of three to four, following a clam-like pattern.

  2. Drowning immunity

The shulker is immune to drowning, so it can stay underwater without taking damage from air loss.

  3. Clam-like texture

The mob is re-textured so its shell resembles a clam, which fits an aquarium theme.

  4. Teleport to air

A shulker can teleport to nearby air blocks that touch a solid block, keeping it in open water.
