Alternative Chunkloading
by LITW Refined
Alternative Chunkloading changes when Minecraft 1.7.10 Forge loads chunks, so that a request for a block or entity no longer pulls in neighboring chunks.
What it does
In vanilla 1.7.10, requesting a block or block entity loads the chunk it sits in, and the loads can cascade into further chunks. The mod uses a vanilla toggle on the ChunkProviderServer instance to stop that automatic chunk loading whenever a block entity is requested. Chunks then load only when they are loaded explicitly, for example through loadChunk x y z or through chunk loading tickers, which keep working as before.
The mod is server-side only, so players join without installing it. It requires UniMixins, and it is published for Forge 1.7.10 with the 1.4.6 file. Its configuration has a loadChunkOnProvideRequest option that is true by default, and setting it to false limits loading to explicitly loaded chunks through the WorldEvent.Load event. A disableChunkLoadingOnRequest option controls the vanilla toggle and is also true by default. A separate autoLoadChunksOnTicketCreation option is set to true by default.
The author notes that some cases, such as multiblock structures from other mods, may still cause lag, and that the mod mainly aims to help with performance slightly. The source code and issue tracker are public, and the code is released under the MIT License.
Key features
Stops automatic chunk loading
A vanilla toggle on the chunk provider stops chunks from loading whenever a block entity is requested.
Explicit-only loading option
With loadChunkOnProvideRequest set to false, only chunks loaded explicitly, such as through loadChunk, are loaded.
Keeps chunk loading tickers
Chunk loading tickers continue to work, and chunks created by a ticket still load as Forge would load them.
Nether portal chunk fix
The mod loads the chunk before a nether portal is generated, and it includes a workaround for Dimensional Doors.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Requirements

Use cases
Who it’s for: Server owners running Minecraft 1.7.10 Forge who want to reduce unnecessary chunk loads. The mod has no client part, so players connecting to such a server need nothing extra.
Questions
Does Alternative Chunkloading need UniMixins?
Which game version does the mod support?
Can the server skip some loading behavior?

What the author says
A forge mod for Minecraft 1.7.10 that stops so called "ghost loading" or "cascade loading" of chunks. It make use of a vanilla toggle on each ChunkProviderServer instance to stop automatic chunkloading whenever a block or entity is requested. Those chunks can then only be loaded explicitely.
