AlexInd's Server Skins

by AlexIndustrial

AlexInd's Server Skins replaces player skins on the client with per-player skins fetched from a server-configured web API, for Forge 1.7.10.

ForgeClient-side onlyGNU General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.7.10

What it does

On startup the client sends a GET request to a configured API URL with each player's nickname. The API replies with JSON that contains a skin URL, and the client retrieves that PNG and applies it to the matching player through reflection. Only the client needs the mod, so players join a server without installing anything on the server side.

The mod targets Minecraft 1.7.10 with Forge 10.13.4.1614 or newer, and the single published Forge file is 1.0.0 for 1.7.10, dated 2026-06-06. It is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only. The package includes a minimal Python example server that provides the JSON endpoint and the skin files from an example folder, with 64x64 PNG skins named after each nickname, such as Notch.png.

Key features

  1. Per-player skins

Each player's skin is fetched by nickname, so different players show different skins from the same server.

  2. JSON skin lookup

The API returns a JSON response that points to a skin URL, which lets the server decide which image each player gets.

  3. Direct PNG retrieval

The client fetches the skin PNG with a direct GET request, so the skin file must be reachable without authentication redirects.

  4. Example server included

A minimal Python server and sample skins are bundled in the package as a starting point for hosting.
