Visible Durability!

by t3oCorp

With Visible Durability! installed, the durability of a tool, weapon or piece of armor appears as a line of text under its name when the player hovers over it.

What it does

The mod shows the remaining durability of any item that takes damage, including swords, armor, tools and items such as shears and flint steel. The value is displayed as current over maximum, so a player can see how much use is left without counting it from the item's bar alone.

Each part of the display can be adjusted: the tooltip can carry an optional prefix, and the text color and boldness can be changed. The settings live in a client-side config file, so a player sets them once and the choice applies to that player's own game. It runs on the client only, and the server does not need it.

The mod is built for Minecraft Beta, on the Babric loader, for game version b1.7.3 only. Its dependencies are Station API, Glass Config API and Glass Networking, all of which must be installed for it to start. The files are released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license and are not open source.

Key features

  1. Durability tooltip

Hovering over an item adds a durability line directly under its name, so the value is read without leaving the inventory.

  2. Current and maximum values

The line shows the remaining durability next to the maximum, for example a count of uses left out of the full total.

  3. Adjustable text

An optional prefix can be added, and the color and boldness of the durability text can be changed in the config.

  4. Covers most damageable items

Swords, armor, tools and other items that lose durability, such as shears and flint steel, all receive the display.

No per-version build data
Modrinth lists game versions for this project (b1.7.3), but the source data has no build per game version and loader, so the compatibility grid is not shown.

Use cases

Checking gear before a trip

Players can read how many uses remain on a pickaxe or set of armor from the inventory, before entering a cave or a long expedition.

Playing on Beta

The mod suits players who keep to the Minecraft Beta experience and want a clearer item readout in that version.

Who it’s for: Players who run Minecraft Beta b1.7.3 with the Babric loader and want durability shown directly on items. Because only the client needs it, it can be added to a single-player game or a multiplayer client without any change on the server.

Questions

Which dependencies does Visible Durability! need?

Station API, Glass Config API and Glass Networking are required. All three must be installed alongside Visible Durability! on the Babric loader.

Does the server need Visible Durability! installed?

No. It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing.

Which game version does the mod support?

The mod is published for Minecraft Beta b1.7.3 only, on the Babric loader, and no other game version has files.

Can the tooltip text be changed?

Yes. The prefix, the text color and the boldness are adjustable, and the settings are kept in a client-side config that can be edited directly.
