Via Equina

by thebee03

Via Equina lets a horse carry its rider along Via Romana roads on its own, choosing turns at intersections based on where the player is looking.

NeoForgeClient and serverCC0 1.0 Universal1.21.1

What it does

While mounted on a horse, the player presses the Auto Ride key and the horse follows the road network, deciding its direction at each intersection from the way the rider is facing. Auto Ride can be turned off again with its own toggle key, and the horse stops automatically at the end of a road.

The mod is an addon for Via Romana: Infrastructure-Driven Fast Travel, which must be installed alongside it. Its road graph is what the horse follows, so Via Equina adds no roads of its own. Via Equina is published for NeoForge only, for 1.21.1, and runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. The code is released under CC0 1.0 Universal and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Automatic horseback riding

A horse ridden on a Via Romana road can travel without input from the player, following the road network.

  2. Intersection steering

At each junction the horse takes the branch that matches the direction the rider is looking, so the route stays under the player's control.

  3. Automatic stop at road ends

When the road ends, the horse halts instead of continuing into open ground.

  4. Auto Ride toggle key

A bound key starts and stops Auto Ride while mounted, so the player can take back control at any time.
