Throwable Spear
by Nighttie
Throwable Spear lets players hurl spears at enemies from a distance, using a charge input bound to the scroll wheel.
What it does
The mod does what its name says: spears become throwable projectiles. A player holds a spear and charges it by right-clicking, then uses the mouse wheel to throw it at an enemy some distance away. The change gives spears a ranged role that they did not have before, so a player can strike a target without closing to melee range.
Throwable Spear is built for combat-focused play, where a thrown spear adds a new way to hit mobs before they reach the player. It needs no extra items or recipes, since the existing spear is the projectile. Both the server and every player need the mod for the throwing to work together.
The available game versions are 1.21.11, 26.1, 26.1.1 and 26.1.2, and the latest file for both loaders is 2.0.0 for 26.1.2, dated 2026-08-09. The mod was first published on 2025-12-16. It is not open source and is released under All rights reserved.
Key features
Thrown spears
Spears can be thrown at enemies, which turns a melee weapon into a ranged option in combat.
Charge and throw input
Right-clicking charges the spear and the mouse wheel throws it, so the throw is a two-step action.
Reach beyond melee
A thrown spear can hit a target at a distance, so players can attack without getting up close.

Use cases
Attacking from range
A player facing a mob that is hard to approach can throw a spear and keep distance.
Combat modpacks
Modpacks that focus on fights can add the mod to give spears a role beyond melee attacks.
Who it’s for: The mod suits players who want spears to work at range, and modpack makers who build combat-focused packs. Because it runs on client and server, server owners install it alongside players.

What the author says
Throwable Spear does exactly what its name suggests: it allows spears to be thrown. Why isn’t this possible in Vanilla Minecraft?
