SPhone

by Florent-Marc

SPhone adds a virtual phone to Minecraft, with a messaging system for text messages, voice calls and a set of built-in apps.

ForgeClient and serverApache License 2.0Open source1.12.2

What it does

Players open the phone from within the game to exchange text messages and place calls with other players. The phone includes a weather screen with forecasts, a calculator with a small memory, and a simple interface meant to be read at a glance. Text and voice calls depend on the server side, so the server and every player need the mod installed.

The mod ships with a built-in API that exposes events and a basic UI, so content creators can build additional apps on top of the phone. Voice chat runs through SVC and message data can be stored in MySQL. The interface is available in French and English only, and the Forge files are built for 1.12.2 alone.

SPhone is open source under the Apache License 2.0 and has a public source code repository and a wiki. Its first Forge release appeared on 2024-01-15, and the latest file, 1.3.5, followed on 2024-03-24 on the beta channel.

Key features

  1. Text messages

Players send SMS to one another from the phone, with the conversation kept in the interface.

  2. Voice calls

Calls between players run through the phone, using SVC for voice chat when it is installed.

  3. Weather forecasts

A weather screen shows the current conditions and a prediction for the coming period.

  4. Calculator

A small calculator app is included in the phone for quick arithmetic during play.

  5. Built-in API

Events and a basic UI let other developers add new features to the phone.
