Speedrunning A Random Item

by Jaeforzs

Speedrunning A Random Item gives a solo player a randomly selected target item to collect as quickly as possible, with optional twists applied to the run.

FabricClient and serverMozilla Public License 2.0Open source1.21.11

What it does

Creating a world with the new Random tab on the world creation screen rolls a target item and a complication at the same time. The player then has to gather the set amount of that item to stop the clock. A persistent timer keeps counting when the player leaves and rejoins the world, so quitting does not reset the run. The timer starts with the first mouse movement or keypress.

The mod is built for singleplayer challenge runs on Minecraft 1.21.11. Players who prefer to choose can pick the item and complication by hand from a browse screen instead of rolling. Worlds are named automatically with an attempt number, so each restart stays simple to track. The source code is public under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, and the mod is installed on the client and server alike.

The mod is distributed for Fabric only, in a single build for 1.21.11, and is open source. It shares the Minigame category with other challenge mods and is listed alongside Game mechanics content.

Key features

  1. Random target item

A target item is drawn at random when the world starts, so each run begins with a different goal to find and collect.

  2. 27 complications

Complications such as sprinting only, meat only, inverted mouse or armor restrictions can be rolled to make a run harder or stranger.

  3. Live HUD

An in-game overlay shows the target item, the active complication and a live timer while the run is in progress.

  4. Manual selection

Players can skip the random roll and browse for an item and complication themselves.

  5. Attempt tracking

Each restart creates a world named with its attempt number, which makes repeated tries simple to tell apart.
