Simple Climbing

by Tameno

Simple Climbing lets players climb blocks the way they climb a ladder, and it is a Fabric mod for Minecraft 1.20.6.

FabricClient and serverCC0 1.0 UniversalOpen source1.20.1 – 1.20.6

What it does

Players can climb any block that works like a ladder, and the climbing rule covers a wall the player is touching. Climbing is limited so that it does not apply on open ground: a player cannot climb a wall while standing on the ground. Wall climbing is available once the player is in the air, so a jump can carry a player up a surface.

The climbing behavior can be switched off in a world or for a single player with commands, so a server owner can turn it off without removing the mod. Client and server both need the mod, with files for 1.20.1 – 1.20.6 and 1.0.0 for 1.20.6 as the latest build. It requires no other mods and is released under CC0 1.0 Universal, which places the work in the public domain, and its source code is public.

Key features

  1. Ladder-style climbing

Blocks are climbed the same way a ladder is climbed, with the player moving up and down along the surface.

  2. Wall climbing from the air

Walls can be climbed while the player is airborne and touching them, but not while standing on the ground.

  3. Per-world and per-player toggles

Climbing can be turned off or on for a whole world or for one player through commands.

  4. Command control

Server owners use commands to disable climbing, so the feature can be limited on a multiplayer server.
