What it does

The mod is a customizable progression layer for the standard game. Its main changes fall on the early and middle stages, where the way materials are found, processed and combined becomes the core of play. The mod brings in alloy production, ore refining, tree tapping and atmospheric distillation, and it layers a detailed alloy system onto tools whose stats depend on their materials, along with other survival processes.

Inspiration comes from real-world counterparts. Project Rankine includes more than 50 stones and over 100 minerals as blocks, with items drawn from the periodic table. Vanilla features still exist, and a few unconventional methods let players reach new terrain generation and explore it in creative ways. The developers note that some parts feel challenging on purpose, encouraging players to work out their own methods.

The server and every player need the mod installed. It is published for Forge only, across two release versions, 1.16.5 and 1.18.2. The author states the aim of staying compatible with other mods and of sharing the experience with players and developers, and the mod is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Alloy system

Alloys combine materials through a set of processes, and the resulting items carry stat-based values used by tools.

  2. Ore refining and distillation

Ore refining, tree tapping and atmospheric distillation turn raw resources into the materials that later stages need.

  3. Real-world mineral blocks

More than 50 stone types and over 100 minerals are added as blocks, arranged after real-world counterparts and the periodic table.

  4. Unconventional terrain methods

A few alternative ways of obtaining and exploring terrain generation sit next to the vanilla features, which remain available.
