Raccoon
by MateoCoxev
Raccoon adds tameable raccoons to Fabric worlds for 1.20.1, with two raccoon types, feeding, dyeable bandanas and craftable accessories.
What it does
Raccoons spawn in forest biomes, and a chonky raccoon is rare enough that encountering one is a matter of luck. Both raccoon types can be tamed with apples, after which they follow the player and keep company. Feeding works by offering food items, but a tamed raccoon grows fussy if it is given too much, so feeding has to be done with some care.
Raccoons also respond to the world around them. They will try to steal from trash cans, and they can be drawn to a jukebox. Players can change a tamed raccoon's bandana color with dyes, craft hat glasses from wheat sticks and black stained glass panes, and sneak to remove accessories. Attacking a raccoon makes it angry. The mod adds a Raccoonmaninov craft and a raccoon plush with a red hood for players who want a companion item.
The mod is client and server, so the server and every player need it. Files exist for Fabric 1.20.1 only, with 1.0.3-1.20.1 as the latest file, published 2025-08-24. The code is not open source and is released as All rights reserved, though the source code and issue tracker are public.

How it compares
Tameable Ocelots is open source under the MIT License, is a Fabric mod for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1 and runs on client and server, so it covers cats rather than raccoons. Tameable Rabbits is open source under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later, supports Fabric and NeoForge for 1.21 – 1.21.4, and is also client and server. Ambient Creatures is open source under the MIT License, works on Fabric for 26.2 – 26.3 and is client and server, so its version range does not overlap with Raccoon's.
