Pyr - Overhauled Nether Portals

by Vaerph

Pyr - Overhauled Nether Portals changes how nether portals are lit and built, letting players light a portal from a gold block and netherite ingot frame.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalApache License 2.01.21.11 – 26.1.2

What it does

Portals restricted ruined portal structures can be summoned anywhere once the frame is built, so a player does not have to locate a ruined portal site in the world. Nether portals only light in the normal way when they are already linked to the overworld and nether, and the mod keeps that link intact. The mod accepts more than one frame shape: a 5x6 frame that takes a gold block at its top center, with netherite ingots set into item frames, and an 8x10 frame with two gold blocks sitting in the middle row.

The mod runs on the server side and is required there, while a client may leave it out. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across four game versions, 1.21.11 – 26.1.2, under the Apache License 2.0, and the project is not open source. It also depends on a data pack, which works alongside a required resource pack. The newest build targets 26.1.2 and was released on 2026-06-04.

Key features

  1. Summonable portals

Portals can be lit from a built frame without a ruined portal structure, and the same mimic approach works for the portal structures already in the game.

  2. Gold and netherite frames

A 5x6 frame uses a gold block at the top middle with netherite ingots in item frames, and an 8x10 frame uses two gold blocks in the middle.

  3. Ruined portal frames

Ruined portal frames can be built either way, so exploration keeps its value while players choose where to light portals.

  4. Seed terrain preserved

The mod encourages players to build around the unique terrain of each world seed, even though portals can be placed anywhere.

Questions

Which loaders does Pyr - Overhauled Nether Portals support?

Files exist for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. The latest file on every loader is the 2+mod build for 26.1.2, published 2026-06-04.

Does the server need the mod installed?

Yes. Server owners install it, and players can join with or without it.

Does the mod need a data pack or resource pack?

A data pack is required, and a resource pack is also required for the mod to work. Both must be present alongside Pyr.

What the author says

Click the activated portals for the corresponding resource pack without the data pack Nether portals can now only be lit normally in an already linked part of the overworld or nether; at a ruined portal site. To summon a portal anywhere you have to mimic the portal structures of old already in the game.
