PortForwarded

by Relism

PortForwarded lets a server owner make a Minecraft server reachable from the internet without changing router settings.

FabricForgeGNU General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.12 – 1.21.5

What it does

Once the server starts with the mod loaded, PortForwarded handles the tunneling itself and sets up the ports needed to expose the server. A domain appears in the console, which can be shared with friends and other players so they can connect. The configuration file config.yml is generated in the mods or plugins folder, under PortForwarded, after the first restart, and it contains only one configuration field.

Players connecting to such a server do not need to install anything. The mod is published for Fabric and Forge, and it is also offered for Paper, Spigot, Bukkit and Purpur as server platforms. Files cover 1.12 – 1.21.5, with 1.0 for 1.21.5 as the latest Fabric and Forge build, and the code is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only.

A legacy fallback option can be enabled in the configuration. When set to true, the mod attempts forwarding through a third-party tunneling service called Serveo, which serves as a last-resort option to keep the server available. Using the mod means agreeing to the terms of service, and more details are on the PortForwarded official site.

Key features

  1. Automatic tunneling

The mod sets up the tunnel and the ports needed to expose the server to the internet, with no router changes.

  2. Shareable domain

A domain is printed in the console, so friends and players outside the local network can connect to the server.

  3. Single configuration field

The generated config.yml exposes only one setting, including the legacy fallback toggle for Serveo forwarding.

  4. Legacy fallback

When enabled, forwarding is attempted through the Serveo tunneling service as a last-resort option.

Use cases

Hosting for friends

A server owner can share a game with friends who live elsewhere without configuring port forwarding on the home router.

Community servers

Players around the world can reach a server run from a home network, without each player installing the mod.

Who it’s for: Server owners who run Minecraft on a home or local network and cannot or do not want to change router port forwarding. Players connecting to such a server do not need the mod.

Questions

Does PortForwarded need to be installed on the client?

No. Players join a server running the mod without installing anything, so only the server needs it.

Which server platforms can run PortForwarded?

The mod is published for Fabric and Forge, and it is also offered for Paper, Spigot, Bukkit and Purpur.

Where is the configuration file?

After the server restarts with the mod loaded, config.yml is generated in the mods or plugins folder under PortForwarded.
