PerfomanceMatters

by ppercree

PerfomanceMatters is a Fabric client mod that trades texture detail and a few visual effects for higher frame rates, built for the 1.21 – 1.21.11 range.

What it does

On the client, PerfomanceMatters sacrifices aspect quality to boost performance, reducing visual fidelity in exchange for frames per second. It also swaps item textures for single-pixel versions and changes the main menu background to a lighter one, and it bundles a number of smaller fixes.

The author describes the mod as an intentional joke: the sacrifices are meant to be funny rather than practical, and the author says the result is most pleasing when played that way. It is recommended alongside Ferrite Core, which reduces memory use. Because only the client needs it, players can join servers without installing anything.

Installation requires Fabric. The mod is published for Fabric only, across 12 release versions, and the latest file is 1.0.0 for 1.21.11, released on 2026-06-07. It is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Aspect quality reduction

Lowers aspect quality in exchange for a performance gain, which is the mod's central trade-off.

  2. One-pixel item textures

Replaces item textures with single-pixel versions, reducing the visual detail of items on screen.

  3. Lighter main menu background

Changes the main menu background, one of several minor visual adjustments included in the mod.

  4. Bundled minor fixes

Includes a set of smaller fixes alongside the larger visual changes, listed by the author.

Use cases

Low-end machines

Players on older or weaker hardware who want more frames can lower visual fidelity with the mod's changes.

Novelty play

Players who want a deliberately silly take on performance tuning, as the author intends it, can use the mod for that purpose.

Who it’s for: Players on Fabric who want a joke-style performance mod on 1.21 – 1.21.11, and who accept the visual cost of its changes.

Questions

Does PerfomanceMatters need to be installed on the server?

No. It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing.

Which loader does PerfomanceMatters use?

Fabric is the only loader it is published for, so Forge and NeoForge players have no file to install.

Does PerfomanceMatters work with Ferrite Core?

The author recommends using it alongside Ferrite Core, which is a separate mod that reduces memory use.
