With OptiLeaves, dense forests and jungles render with fewer hidden faces, which raises frame rates on foliage-heavy scenes.

What it does

OptiLeaves skips the rendering of leaf block faces that a player would not see anyway, which reduces the work the system does when loading leaf-heavy areas. A configurable depth check lets the balance between performance and detail be adjusted. The mod runs on the client alone, so servers and other players need nothing. It is published for Fabric, across 23 release versions 1.18 – 26.3, under a custom license and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Hidden face culling

    Leaf faces that the player cannot see are left out of rendering, cutting unnecessary draw work.

  2. Configurable depth check

    A depth check can be tuned to trade a little detail for more frames, or the reverse.

  3. Gains in dense foliage

    Reported gains reach about 25% in very dense foliage and about 15% in moderately leafy areas.
