What it does

Opposing Force introduces a larger set of enemies to the world, with the goal of a fair but challenging experience. Some enemies stay out of the world until a player has entered the Nether for the first time or has defeated the Ender Dragon, which turns the mod into a progression gate that opens after both milestones.

The mod requires Sinew, and it is needed by Hostile Neural Network: Opposing Force. Environment is client and server, so the server and every player need the mod. Files exist for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with 2.0.3 as the latest Forge build and 3.0.0-beta7 as the latest NeoForge build on the beta channel. The code is not open source and is covered by a custom license.

Key features

  1. Post-Nether and post-End gate

Some enemies spawn only after a player enters the Nether or defeats the Ender Dragon, pacing the world's difficulty.

  2. Spawn mechanics

Mobs spawn through worldgen features in specific biomes and places, with a 2% chance that rises after failed attempts.

  3. Configurable spawn rules

Spawn height requirements can be adjusted for most mobs, and spawn tags are read from datapacks.

  4. Mob drops and tooltips

Most mobs drop crafted tools, items and decorative blocks, and item tooltips explain their mechanics.
