NeoTerrain Diffusion

by cblegoboy

NeoTerrain Diffusion is a NeoForge port of a world generator, released in June 2026 for Minecraft 1.21.1.

NeoForgeServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.1

What it does

The port generates terrain on a dedicated server through a server-side world setup. A player does not install it to join. World creation for this port is done in server.properties rather than on the Create World screen, so the client-side single-player setup of the original is fully replaced.

The build is aimed at newer releases of the NeoForge 1.21.1 line on a dedicated server. The Windows build uses DirectML GPU inference and expects a DirectML-compatible GPU. It warns about missing CUDA during normal startup, and a CUDA-capable setup is required for the Windows server build. Model files are prepared the first time the server starts.

The mod is released under the MIT License and is open source, with source code and an issue tracker linked from the project.

Key features

  1. Server-side terrain generation

The port supports server-side use only, and it is meant for a NeoForge dedicated server.

  2. DirectML GPU inference

The Windows build runs its model inference on the GPU through DirectML, and it tells server owners when CUDA is missing.

  3. Terrain explorer command

A server-side terrain explorer command is included for inspecting generated terrain.

Use cases

Running a local dedicated server

A local server can keep its jar linked to a launcher profile's mods folder, with a sync script that omits client and render-only mods.

Managing GPU memory

Setting a lower memory budget reduces peak VRAM use at the cost of slower generation, for systems where GPU memory becomes tight.

Who it’s for: Server owners who run NeoForge 1.21.1 dedicated servers on Windows and want this terrain generation without a client install. Players only need a standard vanilla client to join.

Questions

Does NeoTerrain Diffusion need to be installed on the client?

No. Players join without it, since only the server has to run the mod.

Which NeoForge version does the port target?

It targets newer builds of the NeoForge 1.21.1 line, as the latest file is published for 1.21.1.

What hardware does the Windows build need?

The Windows build uses DirectML GPU inference, and it warns when CUDA is missing. CUDA is required for the Windows server build.
