ModConfigEditor

by Itamio

ModConfigEditor gives players a graphical screen for opening and changing the configuration files of installed mods, instead of editing them by hand in a text editor.

ForgeClient-side onlyAll rights reserved1.8.9

What it does

Players who want to adjust a mod's settings usually have to locate the right file inside the instance's minecraft/config folder and edit it in a plain text editor. ModConfigEditor replaces that routine with an in-game interface where config files can be browsed and edited directly.

The mod also scans for the config files that installed mods create, so it can list them without the user having to type in each file path. A user-friendly add button lets a file be picked from the disk when it is not detected automatically. The mod runs on the client only, so a server does not need it, and it targets Forge for 1.8.9 with version 1.0.0 as the latest file, released on 2025-07-14. The code is All rights reserved and is not open source.

Key features

  1. In-game config editing

Config files are opened and changed in a graphical screen, without leaving the game or using an external text editor.

  2. Automatic config detection

The mod finds the configuration files that installed mods create, so the list does not have to be assembled by hand.

  3. File picker for added configs

Config files that are not detected can be added through a file selection dialog, which removes the need to locate them in the instance folder.

  4. Quicker access to settings

Settings are reached from inside Minecraft, which saves the steps of finding the instance's minecraft/config folder each time a change is needed.

Use cases

Tuning many mods at once

A player with a large modpack can adjust the settings of several mods from one place instead of opening each file separately.

Adding a config the mod missed

When a mod stores its settings in a file that is not detected, the file picker can register it so it appears in the editor.

Who it’s for: Players on Minecraft 1.8.9 with Forge who maintain modpacks or simply want to change mod settings without working in the config folder by hand.

Questions

Does ModConfigEditor need to be installed on the server?

No. Servers do not need it; each player installs it for their own game.

Which Minecraft version does ModConfigEditor support?

It is built only for Minecraft 1.8.9, and the latest Forge file is 1.0.0 for that version.

Does ModConfigEditor find every config file automatically?

Automatic detection covers the files it can recognize. Any file that is missed can be added with the file picker button.

In the catalog

ModConfigEditor is one of 8,016 Management mods on ModsFinder, and one of 2,698 Management mods for Forge. 955 mods support Minecraft 1.8.9.
