Metallum
by kokodio
Metallum is a client-side optimization mod for Fabric and Quilt that moves rendering work onto Apple's Metal graphics API on macOS.
What it does
Metallum swaps the rendering backend for Metal, which is the graphics layer Apple provides on macOS, so the game draws through the same API the operating system uses. Only the client needs it, and servers run without it. Snapshot builds are published, alongside stable releases for 26.2 and 26.3.
Sodium is an optional dependency and can be installed alongside Metallum. Files cover 26.2 and 26.3 and are released under the MIT License, so the source code is open and public links to the issue tracker are available.
Key features
Metal rendering backend
Replaces the default OpenGL path with a backend built on Metal for macOS machines.
Apple Silicon support
Targets Apple Silicon M1 and newer chips, where Metal runs natively on the processor.
Optional Sodium integration
Sodium can be added as a companion mod to combine its rendering changes with the Metal backend.
