ItemCleaner

by StellarVan

ItemCleaner is a Fabric optimization mod that removes item entities on a schedule, around online players, or on command.

FabricServer required, client optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Item entities left on the ground can be cleared automatically. The cleanup runs on a configurable interval, with a default of 20 minutes, and removes the item types listed in the mod's settings. Cleanup can be limited to a horizontal radius around each online player, which defaults to 48 blocks (3 chunks), with a vertical range from Y=-64 to Y=320. A chat warning appears when item entities reach a configured threshold, so a player can decide whether to clean at that point.

The mod is built for both servers and single-player worlds, where it works without extra setup. An item whitelist lets the server owner name exact item IDs that must be kept, and the settings cover the toggle, interval, range, item threshold and language. Cleanup can also be started at any moment with a command. ItemCleaner runs on the server, so players join without installing it. Files are published for Fabric only, for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with 1.2 for 1.21.1 as the latest file. The code is released under the MIT License and is open source.

Key features

  1. Scheduled cleanup

Item entities are removed on a fixed interval, with 20 minutes as the default, and the interval can be changed.

  2. Radius around players

Cleanup covers item entities within a set horizontal radius of each online player, so distant items are left alone.

  3. Threshold warning

Chat shows a notice once item entities hit a set count, leaving the decision to clean with the player.

  4. Item whitelist

Specific item IDs can be listed so that they are never removed during automatic or manual cleanup.

  5. Manual cleanup command

A command runs the cleanup immediately, which suits moments when the ground is cluttered after a mining or farming session.

Use cases

Who it’s for: The mod suits server owners who want item entities removed on a timer and players who run large farms in single-player worlds. Owners can tune the interval, radius and whitelist to match their setup.

Questions

Does ItemCleaner need to be installed on the client?

No. Server owners install it, and players can join with or without it.

Which game versions does ItemCleaner support?

Files exist for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, and the latest Fabric file is 1.2 for 1.21.1, published on 2025-09-06.

Can items on the whitelist still be removed by the command?

The whitelist names item IDs that are kept, so items on it are not removed by scheduled or manual cleanup.
