Icon Leading Tooltip

by KevzCz

With Icon Leading Tooltip, item tooltips gain small icons placed in front of each attribute line, so stats are easier to scan at a glance.

What it does

Icon Leading Tooltip places an icon before each attribute in an item's tooltip. Attributes that would otherwise appear as plain text lines, such as damage or armor, are shown with a matching symbol, which makes long tooltips quicker to read. The changes apply to the item screen, the hover tooltip and the creative inventory.

The mod is client-side only, so only the player needs it and a server can run without it. Installation needs Fabric API on Fabric, and the other loaders run without extra libraries. Files target Forge, Fabric and NeoForge for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with the newest Fabric and NeoForge builds released on 2026-07-25 and the Forge build on 2026-07-19.

The code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and the source code and issue tracker are public. Show Me Your Build requires Icon Leading Tooltip, so it is one of the catalog mods that depends on it. The author notes that the mod works with Dynamic Tooltips, which is recommended alongside it.

Key features

  1. Icons before attributes

Each attribute line in a tooltip starts with an icon matched to its stat type.

  2. Before and after view

The tooltip can be compared with the default layout, showing how the icons change each line.

  3. RPG attribute icons

Icons cover the attribute sets used by RPG-style mods, so modded stats also get symbols.

  4. Combat stat icons

Combat-related attributes such as attack values receive icons, matching the Better Combat mod's stats.
