Grappling Hook Mod: Skybound

by weaversworkshop

Skybound lets players throw a grappling hook at moving objects, including Create contraptions, Sable airships and ordinary vanilla walls, on Fabric and NeoForge for 1.21.1.

What it does

Skybound is derived from an earlier Fabric port of a classic grappling hook design. The rope follows a hook as it attaches to a moving structure or a fixed block, and it keeps its anchor when the structure shifts or turns. Hook and rope state is kept on the server, so other players see the same rope and a hook survives a relog.

The mod is published for Fabric and NeoForge under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and the source code and issue tracker are public. Works on either side, and neither needs it. Files cover 1.21.1 only, with the latest builds dated 2026-05-03. The original grappling hook design belongs to its first author, and the attribution is listed in ATTRIBUTIONS.md.

Key features

  1. Moving structure support

The hook follows a flying airship or assembled contraption, adjusting to its position, rotation and splits.

  2. Upgradeable hook

Several add-ons for the hook, such as propulsion, teleport and magnet effects, can be applied to it.

  3. Long Fall Boots

A pair of boots that reduces the damage taken when the player lands after a long descent.

  4. Smithing Table upgrades

Upgrades for the hook are applied at any Smithing Table.

Use cases

Airship travel

Players reach a flying airship on the Sable physics engine and ride it to a new position.

Multiplayer grappling

Several players on a server can grapple the same structures, and each sees the same rope.

Who it’s for: Players who build Create contraptions or Sable airships and want to travel between them, and server owners who run shared worlds with moving structures.

Questions

Does Skybound need Create to work?

No. Create contraptions are a supported target, but the mod can grapple onto vanilla blocks without Create installed.

Which loaders does Skybound support?

Skybound is published for Fabric and NeoForge. Files cover 1.21.1 only.

Does a server need Skybound installed?

Either side can run it, and neither needs it, so a server can run it and players without it can still join.

What the author says

Skybound is a grappling hook mod that works on moving objects. Throw a hook at a Create contraption, a Sable airship, or just a vanilla wall. The rope tracks it, wraps around it, and doesn't fall apart when the world moves under you. Runs on both Fabric and NeoForge (1.21.1).
