What it does
The dimension is filled with varied stylistic biomes, and some of them generate structures that players can find while exploring. The mod reworks the Touhou setting for Minecraft 1.16.5 and changes many details from the original work to fit the game. The author credits ZUN and Team ShanghaiAlice as the original creators.
Players enter Gensokyo to look into incidents that unfold there. The story revolves around fights with fairies, collecting items and learning the setting, with hostile creatures that can be pushed back during an adventure. Gensokyo can also be entered at a relaxed pace, since the author leaves the choice of tempo to the player.
Gensokyo Ontology runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. It is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only, is open source, and is published for Forge on 1.16.5 only. The latest file is forge-1.16.5-alpha-0.0.805, an alpha build dated 2025-08-06.
