Frost Rider lets the Frost Walker enchantment freeze water beneath horses, camels and other mounts, so a rider can cross oceans with a favorite mount.
What it does
A small datapack and mod that extends the Frost Walker enchantment to mounts. Boots enchanted with Frost Walker turn water into ice under a mount as well as under the player, and the effect covers horse variants and both camel variants. The aim is a utility change for travel, letting a rider keep the same mount from a shore to a far island instead of switching to a boat.
Installation is on the server side: the server needs Frost Rider, and players may add it on their own clients without any effect on joining. The mod is open source under the MIT License, and its source code and issue tracker are linked publicly. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and a data pack build is available for servers that do not run a mod loader.
Release files cover 1.21 – 1.21.11 across twelve versions, with 1.1 as the latest file for 1.21.11. The first file appeared on 2025-10-14 and the most recent update on 2025-12-09.
