Entity Health Bars

by Aolu

Entity Health Bars shows a health bar above nearby mobs and players, with optional damage numbers, and is set up through a data pack on the server.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalMIT License1.21.4 – 1.21.11

What it does

The data pack draws a health bar over nearby entities as they take damage or heal. Bars show absorption as a separate segment, with gained absorption in one color and lost absorption in another. Bar width grows with an entity's maximum health, capping at 40 segments for the largest. Damage numbers and indicator colors can be turned on with the same data pack.

Because the data pack runs on the server, the server owner is the one who installs it and players join without it. Toggling the bars and damage numbers that show through walls is handled with a scoreboard command, and the see-through setting for each display can be set to a value below or above one. Health bars and indicators still appear on entities under effects such as invisibility. Players using a mod such as Player Ladder see the number indicators as well, whether or not Player Ladder is installed.

The mod is released under the MIT License and is not open source. Files exist for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, covering game versions 1.21.4 – 1.21.11, and the latest file for each loader is 1.0.7+mod for 1.21.11, dated 2025-06-22. The author publishes an issue tracker for reports.

Files exist for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, covering 1.21.4 – 1.21.11. Data pack support is listed as a separate server platform.
