Dormant Power
by Skuffd_
Dormant Power is a Forge and NeoForge superpower mod in which the player gains one of 12 powers, each tied to combat, movement or an environmental effect.
What it does
Powers are granted through advancements rather than given at the start. Completing a specific advancement grants the Dormant Power item, and Talismans are used to obtain the individual powers. Each power is either active, meaning a combat-oriented ability, or passive, meaning a constant effect that is not tied to fighting. Keybound abilities are activated with a key, and each power carries a drawback that the player has to manage.
Examples include Natural Armour, which provides toughness bars and makes the player briefly immune to damage, and Lockdown, which is followed by a slowness effect. Friendly Breeze adds movement speed and reduces fall damage, while Dash gives a momentum-based horizontal lunge. Teleportation reaches up to 48 blocks but leaves the player weakened, with slowness and mining fatigue afterwards. Fireproof grants permanent fire resistance, and Cold Immunity blocks powder snow damage. The author notes that most weaknesses are situational, so the powers are slower or less useful at times.
The mod is client and server, so the server and every player need it. Files are published for Forge and NeoForge across 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 1.21.4 and 1.21.5, and the mod is licensed under All rights reserved, so it is not open source. The author recommends discovering the powers in play, and a video mod pack is linked from the author text with a request to credit the author.
