DarkSleep

by GamerPotionDev

DarkSleep changes the sleep threshold on a server, so the night can advance once half the players are in bed instead of every one.

What it does

Vanilla Minecraft skips to morning only when every player on a server is sleeping, which an AFK player can block indefinitely. DarkSleep replaces that rule with a percentage: by default 50% of the online players must be asleep, and the server owner can set the value from 0 to 100%. With 20 players online and the setting at 50%, ten sleeping players are enough to pass the night.

The mod is a simple sleep percentage changer built for servers. Only the server needs it, so players join without installing anything. It is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and requires Fabric API on the Fabric loader. Builds cover 1.20.1 – 26.2, with files for 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2 and 26.2, and the latest file is 1.0.4 for 26.2. The code is not open source, and all rights are reserved by the author, GamerPotionDev.

Key features

  1. Adjustable sleep percentage

The share of online players needed to skip the night is set in the server configuration, from 0 to 100 percent.

  2. Protection against idle players

AFK players who never sleep no longer stop the night from advancing for everyone else on the server.

  3. Server-side operation

All logic runs on the server, so clients need no installation and vanilla clients can join.

  4. Night progress on sleep

Once the required share of players is asleep, the night advances to day as in vanilla.

Use cases

Busy multiplayer servers

On a server with many players, a percentage threshold lets the night pass without waiting for every player to go to bed.

Servers with AFK players

Owners who want idle accounts to stop blocking the night can set the threshold below 100 percent.

Who it’s for: Server owners who run multiplayer worlds with the vanilla default sleep rule and want a configurable share of sleeping players instead.

Questions

Does DarkSleep need to be installed on the client?

No. Players join without it, since only the server has to run the mod.

Which loader should a server use for DarkSleep?

Any of Fabric, Forge or NeoForge works. The Fabric build also needs Fabric API installed on the server.

Does DarkSleep work on older game versions?

Files cover 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, then 26.1 – 26.2. Versions between 1.21.1 and 26.1 have no listed file.
