CustomBrewRecipes

by Emafire003

CustomBrewRecipes lets mod developers register non-potion brewing recipes whose inputs and outputs can carry NBT data.

FabricNeoForgeQuiltServer-side onlyCC0 1.0 UniversalOpen source1.18 – 1.21.4

What it does

Brewing recipes in the base game only handle potions. CustomBrewRecipes gives developers an API for adding brewing recipes that work with other items and keep their NBT data, so a recipe can check or produce items with custom components. The mod is for developers working on other mods, and it has no in-game features on its own.

The API documentation is written as javadoc on the classes and methods. Developers supply the items a recipe accepts, then either pass ItemStacks that already carry the custom components or use the NBT method. Checks can test whether a component type or NBT field is present, and whether a field holds a specific value. The output item keeps its full ComponentMap or NBT, since the recipe result is the item that gets created.

The mod runs on the server side only, so players join without installing it. It is published for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt, with game versions 1.18 – 1.21.4, and is released under CC0 1.0 Universal, which makes the source code open source.

Key features

  1. Custom brewing recipes

Developers register brewing recipes for items other than potions through the mod's API.

  2. NBT-aware inputs

A recipe can match an input by its custom components or NBT fields, not only by item type.

  3. NBT-preserving outputs

The recipe output keeps the full component map or NBT data of the item it creates.

  4. Javadoc documentation

The API is described in javadoc comments on its classes and methods, covering how to supply items and call the NBT method.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Mod developers who want brewing recipes that go beyond potions. Players and server owners only need it when a dependent mod requires it, such as LightWithin - Player-specific unique powers! or Vietnam's Delight Reborn.

How it compares

Full comparison

NBT Recipes is open source under the Apache License 2.0, and works on Fabric and Quilt for 1.20 – 1.20.1. NBT Copy is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, runs on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.16 – 26.3, and either side can run it, and neither needs it. CustomBrewRecipes covers Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt for 1.18 – 1.21.4 and is server-side only.

Questions

Which loader should a developer target with CustomBrewRecipes?

The mod publishes files for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt. The latest Fabric and Quilt files are 1.3.2 for 1.21.1, and the latest NeoForge file is 1.3.2-neo for 1.21.4.

Does CustomBrewRecipes have to be installed on the client?

No. The environment is server-side only, so players can join without it, and the server needs it only when a mod that depends on it is installed.

Which mods require CustomBrewRecipes?

Two catalog mods require it: LightWithin - Player-specific unique powers! and Vietnam's Delight Reborn.

What the author says

Detailed instructions can be found in the javadoc, but all you have to do is calling and either use itemstacks that already have custom components or supply the nbt to the method.
