ChatCalc

by Smallinger

ChatCalc lets players type a math expression into the chat box and replace it with its result before sending.

NeoForgeClient-side onlyMozilla Public License 2.0Open source1.21.1 – 1.21.10

What it does

Players type an expression such as a sum, a product or a trigonometric call into the chat box, press TAB, and the expression is evaluated in place. A live result preview appears above the chat while the expression is being typed, so the answer can be checked before anything is sent. The evaluation runs only on the client, and nothing extra has to be typed as a command or handled by an external tool.

The mod supports the usual operators along with trigonometry, logarithms, square roots and other common functions. Custom functions and constants can be defined, which lets a player keep frequently used formulas ready for real-time evaluation in chat. Because the work happens inside the game, the feature works in single-player and on any server, since no server-side component is involved.

ChatCalc is published for NeoForge only, with files for 1.21.1 and 1.21.10 under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, and its source code and issue tracker are public. The first release is 1.0.0 for 1.21.1, dated 2025-11-12, and this card covers the NeoForge port of the original mod.

Questions

Does ChatCalc need to be installed on the server?

No. Players add it to their own game, and a server needs no copy.

Which loader does ChatCalc use?

ChatCalc is published for NeoForge only. Files exist for 1.21.1 and 1.21.10, so it cannot be used on Fabric or Forge.

Can custom functions be saved between sessions?

The description covers defining custom functions and constants for real-time evaluation, but it does not state whether definitions persist after the game closes.
