Chat Coords

by mrboogybam

Chat Coords sends the player's current coordinates into game chat with a single key press, showing x, y and z together with the dimension.

FabricForgeClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.18 – 1.20.5

What it does

Pressing the assigned button posts the player's current position to chat, so the coordinates can be shared with others or kept in the message log. The readout lists x, y and z and marks the dimension as Overworld, Nether or End, so a position in the Nether is not mistaken for one in the Overworld.

The mod is a client-side tool: only the player who installs it gets the feature, and servers can run without it. It needs Fabric API on Fabric. Builds cover 1.18 – 1.20.5 and are published for Fabric and Forge, with the latest Fabric file for 1.20.5 and the latest Forge file for 1.20.4. The code is under the MIT License, so the project is open source and its source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. One-key coordinate posting

A press of the assigned button sends the current coordinates straight into game chat, without typing a command.

  2. Dimension label

The message names the dimension as Overworld, Nether or End, so positions in different worlds stay distinct.

  3. Full position format

The output shows x, y and z values together, in a fixed order that is simple to copy and compare.

  4. Chat-based sharing

Because the position is written to chat, players in multiplayer can read it and pass it along without extra tools.

Use cases

Sharing a base location

A player can post the coordinates of a build or a mining site to chat so teammates can navigate to it.

Tracking a position across dimensions

The dimension label helps when a player moves between the Overworld, the Nether and the End and needs to record where they are.

Who it’s for: Players who want a quick way to share their position in chat, on Fabric or Forge. Because it is client-side only, it suits players joining servers that do not install anything extra.

Questions

Does Chat Coords need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is a required dependency on Fabric. Forge builds do not list it as a requirement.

Does the server need Chat Coords installed?

No. It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing.

Which loader should be used?

Fabric and Forge are both published. The latest Fabric file targets 1.20.5 and the latest Forge file targets 1.20.4, so the right choice depends on the game version in use.
