Biome Dimensions Expanded

by icbat

Biome Dimensions Expanded adds fourteen new dimensions for Fabric that follow the overworld's generation rules, so a world can hold far more terrain than the small border allows.

What it does

Each added dimension is built on the LargeBiome noise generation presets and draws from the same kinds of features as the overworld, at a 1:1 distance ratio. The mod's author describes it as inspired by the imcrime mod, though the two are separate projects. A world that is relatively small in border size still gets a useful amount of variety, because the dimensions hold more biomes than the overworld does for the same space.

Travel between dimensions uses a new portal type. It is built from a different block than the Nether portal's obsidian frame, so it is not lit with the same method. The mod supports the listed blocks, and players can reach each dimension through its own portal once one is placed. Because the mod is written for Fabric, a Fabric install is needed on each side of a server.

The mod is published under the MIT License and is open source, with a public source repository and issue tracker. Its only game version is 1.20.1, and the latest file is 1.0-1.20.1, dated 2024-06-04. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.

Key features

  1. Fourteen added dimensions

The mod adds fourteen new dimensions, each generated with overworld-like rules and biome variety.

  2. Custom portal type

Dimensions are entered through a separate portal built from a different block than the Nether portal's obsidian.

  3. Overworld-scale distances

Dimensions keep a 1:1 distance ratio with the overworld, so travel distances match the main world.

  4. Supported blocks

Chiseled Sandstone, Red Mushroom Blocks and several stripped log and bamboo variants appear among the supported blocks.
