Better Horse Steering
by MedIs-Glitch
With Better Horse Steering installed, a player steers a horse or other rideable land mob by turning gradually, much like steering a car.
What it does
Vanilla riding sends a horse wherever the player looks, so left and right movement feels stiff. Better Horse Steering replaces that with a steering system in which the mob turns smoothly toward the direction the player presses, and W and S move it forward and backward relative to its facing. Ctrl adds a sprint, and the walk and sprint speeds are separate, so the mob keeps a natural pace. The change applies to horses and other rideable land mobs, not to boats or minecarts.
The mod is aimed at players who travel long distances with rideable mobs and find the default movement awkward. It is published for Fabric only, on 1.21.11, and runs as a client or server mod: it works on a client alone, a server alone or both, and installing it on one side is enough. Better Horse Steering is not open source and is released under the MIT License.
Key features
Car-like steering
Turning rotates the mob gradually toward the pressed direction instead of snapping to the look direction.
Walk and sprint
Holding Ctrl sprints the mob, and walk speed stays separate from sprint speed.
Smooth head turning
The mob's head turns in step with the new heading, so rotation reads as continuous.
Reworked step sounds
The mod alters the step sound system, so footfalls follow the new movement.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.

Use cases
Long-distance travel
Players crossing wide maps on horseback can keep a steady heading without constant corrections.
Mixed rideable mobs
The same steering applies to other rideable land mobs, so one control scheme covers several mounts.
Who it’s for: Players who ride horses or other land mobs often and want movement that resembles driving a car. Server owners can install it so every rider on a server gets the same controls.
How it compares
Galloping Horses is a Fabric mod for 1.21.1 – 1.21.11 that is open source under the MIT License and client-side only, so only the player needs it. Vinaigrette and Bley's mounts is open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, covers 1.21.10 – 1.21.11 and needs both client and server.

What the author says
Better Horse Steering improves the way players control horses and other rideable land mobs, making their movement feel more like driving a car. In vanilla Minecraft, riding horses feels boring, stiff and hard to control, the horse always look at the same direction as the player, and right/left movements are so bad…
