Battle Only Capture

by hAiQ

Battle Only Capture limits how wild Pokémon can be caught in Cobblemon, so a capture works only during the battle it started in.

FabricServer-side onlyMIT License1.21.1

What it does

Wild Pokémon can be captured only when the ball is thrown during the battle against that exact Pokémon. Throws made outside that battle are turned away, and the ball comes back to the player. Once a battle is won, or the wild opponent flees or is forfeited, the wild Pokémon is removed from the world, so it cannot be chased down afterward.

The mod is server-side only: clients need nothing extra, and players join without installing it. It requires Cobblemon and Fabric API, runs on Minecraft 1.21.1, and stays server-authoritative in multiplayer. It also supports singleplayer through the integrated server. Files are released under the MIT License and are not open source.

Key features

  1. Battle-bound captures

A wild Pokémon can only be captured during the battle it is part of, never by a ball thrown at an unrelated spawn.

  2. Rejected outside battles

Any ball thrown outside the matching battle is refused and given back to the player.

  3. Wild opponents removed

After a victory, a forfeit or a flight, the wild Pokémon is taken out of the world.

  4. Multiplayer authority

The server decides every capture, so the rule holds on dedicated servers and in shared worlds.

Use cases

Server battle rules

Server owners who want Cobblemon encounters to end with the battle can apply the rule to every player without client changes.

Singleplayer play

Players running a single world through the integrated server get the same battle-only rule.

Who it’s for: Server owners running Cobblemon on Fabric who want captures tied to battles, and singleplayer players on Minecraft 1.21.1 who want the same rule.

How it compares

Full comparison

Cobblemon: Capture PC Heal is also server-side only and published under the MIT License for 1.21.1, but it adds healing at a PC rather than changing captures. Cobblemon: Wild Loot is server-side only, licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later, and has Fabric and NeoForge files for 1.21.1. PolyPokémon runs on Fabric for 1.21.1 and can be installed on the client, the server or both.
