ViScriptTeam

by zhenshiz

ViScriptTeam adds a faction layer for NeoForge, where entities and players belong to factions and reputation decides whether they are hostile, neutral or friendly.

NeoForgeClient and serverGNU General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.21.1

What it does

Each entity is assigned to a faction, and each player carries a reputation value toward every faction. Reputation below a set value makes a faction hostile to that player, while a value above a higher threshold makes it friendly, and anything in between leaves the player neutral. The starting reputation and both thresholds can be changed in the configuration.

The mod is meant for RPG maps, story-driven maps and cooperative party play, where map makers need to model how monsters and NPCs relate to each other. Faction IDs are normalized to lowercase, so a faction named Guards is stored as guards. It works as a replacement for the vanilla team system for this purpose, and it requires LDLib to run.

Installation covers the server and each player's game. It is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, so the project is open source. Builds exist for 1.21.1 only, with the latest NeoForge file published on 2026-08-01.

Key features

  1. Faction membership

Each entity is assigned to a faction, which decides how it treats players and other entities.

  2. Per-player reputation

Every player has a reputation value toward each faction, starting at a configurable default.

  3. Inter-faction hostility

A list of enemy faction IDs sets which factions consider each other hostile, and which ones attack players.

  4. Friendly fire control

A toggle decides whether entities of the same faction can damage players or each other.

Use cases

Story-driven servers

Map makers can place guards, bandits and townsfolk so that some groups fight the player and others protect them.

Cooperative party play

A party of players can work through a faction-based map while the reputation of each player is tracked separately.

Who it’s for: Map makers and server owners who need factions, reputation and hostility rules on NeoForge 1.21.1. The mod is aimed at RPG and story-driven maps rather than vanilla survival play, and it requires LDLib on the same server.

Questions

Does ViScriptTeam need LDLib?

Yes. LDLib is a required dependency and must be installed alongside ViScriptTeam on NeoForge 1.21.1.

Does the server need the mod as well as players?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.

Can the reputation thresholds be changed?

Yes. The starting reputation, the neutral threshold and the friendly threshold are all set in the configuration.
